Deadly Swine Flu outbreak in Mexico City { 52 images } Created 25 Apr 2009
A deadly Swine Flu has hit Mexico city. This weekend the World Health Organization is convening an expert panel to determine whether to raise its pandemic flu alert level. We're at level 3. If the panel finds evidence of "increased human-to-human transmission" it goes to level 4. If there's evidence of "significant human-to-human transmission," it goes to level 5.
Statistics on the infected, and the dead are very unreliably, although I have heard from numerous sources that 80 have died, and over 1000 are infected. With increased awareness the number of infected is certain to rise in the coming days.
Most of the cases in Mexico have been among people who were apparently young and healthy. This is alarming, because the 1918 influenza epidemic also struck the young and healthy.
